A low cost alternative to expensive automatic gate technologies brought to you by the University of Arkansas AgrAbility Project.

The Remote Bump Gate

Originally developed to operate in locations with flooding problems, this low cost gate system can be applied to any existing structure or with newly purchased gates.  Using a transmitter similar to that of a keyless entry remote, the user can unlock the gate and use a tractor/car/truck to push the gate into an open position and drive through.  Once the vehicle has cleared the gate, springs will slowly bring it back into a locked position.  Bump pads and an indicator light will ensure no damage to the vehicle or gate will occur.

Bump Gate Attributes

- Allows user to remain in vehicle
- Activated by a keychain remote
- Helps the elderly and disabled to remain active on their farm
- Opens/Closes and locks both ways
- Can be built onto pre-existing gates
- Final cost as low as $290

Agricultural Implications

This simple yet effective system allows individuals a low cost way to modernize their gates.  More importantly, it gives those that might have problems with walking or balance a means to oversee their property without having to constantly get out of their vehicle to proceed from pasture to pasture.  The aging agricultural community or those with a disability have the most to gain by implementing our remote gate system.

Economic Considerations

Remote Gate Total Costs:
Without Pre-existing Gate            $400.53
With Pre-existing Gate                 $283.65

The bidirectional bump gate allows the user an affordable alternative to expensive solar panel systems and cattle guards.
